Little did the Finalists of this year’s Voicetrax 500 know, but Samantha had an even twistier self-direction slalom in mind for this year’s class and competition! Up for grabs: a $500 Voicetrax scholarship as before. New for this round: a progressive bracket scoring system set to reward those finalists who recognized which pieces they performed best! And after a dialogue elimination round for the top four (as judged by their peers in class), get a load of this: the NEXT two best-performing students were called on to DIRECT the final two! When all the dust and tire smoke cleared, ‘Traxer JANICE CUNNINGHAM took the podium and the $500, with WES DAVIS as the runner-up! But that’s not all… because she did such a stellar job directing Janice to her victory, MEGAN RATTO gets a free private lesson with Samantha!
Turns out it was quite a week for Janice, whose class victory came on the heels of her FIRST BOOKING! “Never mind that it was a 15 second, a gig is a gig. It is really funny though that I should sound so perfect for an old lady having a heart attack, calling for help. I used my best crackly voice to cry out. The best part of this whole experience is that they liked my audition just as it was so no more work was needed on that one. Here’s a shout out to all my coaches at Voicetrax!
And what a complete and total surprise to finish out this stellar week, winning the Voicetrax 500! I participated in the contest to get more practice and what a great group we had in all those Zoom squares. It was a fun day I think, for all of us.
