Director: Kimberly Mohne Hill

Length: 12-hour four-week online workshop

Class Notes: This course includes a pre-class homework assignment.

How you respond to the given circumstances in your life creates the kind of person you are. Transferring that realism to an acting performance is at the heart of the approach Kim will employ when working with you on your memorized monologue. A little bit Stanislavski, a little bit Uta Hagen, this seminar will delve into the world of substitution, transference, authenticity and asking yourself: What would I do if I was in this situation? By discovering how your given circumstances affect your personal life choices, you can transfer that process when you’re provided a script with the given circumstances of your fictional character, and be able to make more realistic acting choices. You’ll learn how empathizing with the character you portray becomes the key to opening the doors to a genuinely memorable performance.

The Competition:

The top four students from each scene study class will advance to a final competition class to be held in the fall semester of 2021. If you are among the twelve students chosen, you’ll perform the memorized monologue honed in your scene study class (or if you’re feeling adventurous another one of your choosing) in front of the judges: Samantha Paris and a top San Francisco agent, another opportunity to showcase your abilities in front of an agent and put yourself in the running for a chance at THREE fabulous prizes!

All finalists will get priority status for a private lesson with Samantha to further work your competition monologue at a discounted price before the finals weekend!

PRIZES:

1st PLACE: $1,000 Scholarship

2ND PLACE: One FREE four-week workshop or weekend seminar

3RD PLACE: One FREE private lesson with Samantha Paris
