THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF PROMOS

Enter the Magic Kingdom of promos, a very prolific and profitable slice of the voice-over industry. Join a well-versed and long-experienced Ryan Clark, a writer and producer for Disney promos, as he takes you through eye-opening exercises showing you the skills necessary to be a competitive promo actor, including giving feedback on home recorded auditions (and perhaps giving you another shot at it live in-class), casting do’s and don’ts as they ask for your feedback on class performances, even letting you peek behind the curtains to hear winning auditions on actual promo projects! A GATHERING OF ACTORS

Jump into the fray with Melissa Gray to explore the acting essentials necessary to make an emotional connection to the script. You’ll explore your wants, verbal action choices, selection of beats, variety of rhythms and nuancing, subtext as you work on a scene with a partner. Your monologue work will bring a sense of relationship to the performance that translates to radio dialogue work, video games, character pieces… ok, literally ALL of your voice-over acting endeavors. Expand your listening skills so that you are spontaneously reacting, creating a performance that will come from a true sense of what you need and feel in the moment. No voice-over copy to be found! YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN: THE ART OF SELF-DIRECTION

A world-class authority on the intricacies of home auditioning, Thom Pinto will guide you through developing a critical ear on playbacks, examining your initial tendencies (good or bad) when left on your own, covering the bases for an audition with no outside direction (minus some likely confusing and unhelpful specs) and finding the best rhythm for auditioning amid demanding day jobs and all the responsibilities that stem from that little thing called life. After class is finished, Thom will provide each student with a customized “cheat-sheet” analysis based on what he observed in class to enable you to produce consistently impressive home auditions all on your own. Now that home auditioning is here to stay, this course is more relevant than ever!
